Social MediaWe recently saw a clever infographic from Fast Company (you can print the poster here.) that offered the first sound advice that I've heard about social media.  If you're interested in social media and think you should be using it to somehow boost your business, it's worth considering Fast Company's "36 Rule".  A few of my favourites are as follows:

 #1 If all you do is respond to complaints, that's all people will send you.

 #10 People would rather talk to "Comcast Melissa" than to "Comcast".

 #16 It's OK to drive people to your site instead of Facebook's.

 #17 Update your page, or delete it.

 #25 The only way to scale word of mouth: PAID ADVERTISING.

 #29 People don't want to shop where they socialize.

 #31 People care what you had for breakfast - IF you're a food brand.

 The overall theme is simple: social media is about socializing. Sometimes, but only sometimes, that may have an impact on your business.
